What are the Adult Special Classes?
The Adult Special Classes are programs offered by Downey Adult School in cooperation with the Arc. Each program is taught by a credentialed instructor from Downey Adult School and is designed to meet the needs of adults with developmental disabilities. Enrollment is open to consumers attending Arc of Southeast Los Angeles County.
COOPERATIVE PROGRAMS WITH
DOWNEY ADULT SCHOOL
The Adult Development Center (ADC) - Training/Education program designed to meet the needs of adults with profound intellectual disabilities.
Day Training Activity Center (DTAC) - The overall goal of this program is to have the students reach their fullest potential and to provide the adult students, ages 18 and older, with the necessary basic daily living skills for successful survival in the community, and to acquire the skills for placement into Southeast Industries Workshop.
Basic Education - Classes are designed to maintain skills and to promote growth in language development, money management, reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
Food Service Training - Training program designed to provide vocational training to adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, seeking employment in the food industry.
Grooming - Educational program designed to encourage positive hygiene habits.
Independent Living Skills - Education program in an apartment setting, focusing on teaching a variety of skills.
Health and Hygiene - Education program focusing on developing skills for healthy living.
Human Relations - Education program focusing on appropriate public and social behaviors.
